Welcoming a new member to your home is certainly joyful and most cherishing moment in everyone’s life. You will enter into a new phase in the life accompanied by the little one. It is an amazing time, but the joy sometimes become overwhelming as the baby’s development is not monitored.

There is a common belief that newborns tend to sleep for 18 – 20 hours a day until 6 months, so there is nothing to concern! Although it is true, each and every day in a newborn’s life become part of the baby development.

First time mothers find it very difficult to handle the baby well and many times, even find it difficult to understand the needs of the little one. Here is the simple guide on Baby development – 1 month old!

What your one month old baby do?

Wondering what your babies do? The new born who spent for several months in the womb will try to adjust itself to the strange, new, big and wild world, of course with your support and care.

As said earlier, the newborns sleep no less than 16 hours a day until it gets adjusted to the world!

Newborn babies recognize their mommies

This is a crucial aspect of the baby development in one month baby! The baby will be able to recognize the warmth of the mother. If your little one cries, go grab it in your hands and hold it for a while. The baby recognizes the touch of the mother and feels comfortable!

Besides, in around a couple of weeks, as soon as the baby starts seeing and staring at objects, it will recognize the facial expressions of the mother! The baby will start observing the faces, expressions, etc.

The baby will start making some mild noises and gurgle when they see their mom. If you talk to your little one face to face, it will respond by making some sweet sounds with a smile!

How and when your baby see?

Until a few days, the newborn cannot open the eyes! In around 10 – 15 days of birth, the little one will stare at the objects. Generally, the newborns tend to see the bright and contrast objects and this is the major reason that mommies are recommended to use a bright night lamp. Besides, the babies look at moving objects and smile at it!

How and when your baby hear?

The baby, which is used to hearing loud sounds (mother’s heart beat) love to hear rhythmic music, songs and especially the voice of the moms!

So, the baby will listen to pleasing music, rhythmic beats and respond to the voices. At the same time, it will also react to the loud and unpleasant noises! The baby will cry, smile, stiffen the body, etc. when hearing the sounds.

The hearing capacity of a baby is already developed and if you find your baby not responding or reacting to the sounds, then take your baby immediately to a physician.

However, remember that your baby cannot make movements for the music or sounds and will not search for the source of the sounds!

How does your baby reflex?

Look for the three main baby reflexes that as a part of the crucial baby development of a one month old kid.

  1. Your baby turns the head to one side
  2. It will try to grasp your finger with this tiny hand
  3. Start moving the hands and legs

The newborns tend to cry a lot when they urinate for an initial few days. If you still notice your newborn crying with urinating, consult with your doctor.

  • Focus on objects located at least at 12 to 15 inches distance from the baby’s face
  • Turns the head
  • Hands and leg movement
  • Listen to a variety of sounds
  • Make sounds and try to communicate with mom

A note to remember:

While the said mentioned aspects of a baby’s development for a one month baby remains similar for a majority of the newborns, there are always a few exceptions. Premature baby or a baby born a few weeks ahead of the due date may catch up the development peers a bit late. So, mommies who had their baby prematurely need not worry about the developmental delay!
