Born in Vienna, Austria on the 6th of September 1935, Emilie Buchald is a popular author of two award winning children’s novel. The novels are Gildaen and Floramel and Esteban. She is a poet and a fiction writer who essentially writes for children.
Emilie’s Educational background:
She graduated from Barnard College in New York while, she obtained a MA i.e. Master of Arts degree from Columbia University. She then completed a Ph.D in English literature and honorary Doctor of Humane Letters from the University of Minnesota.
Emilie’s Career as an author/editor:
Apart from being an award winning children’s writer she is also the publisher emeritus and co-founder of Milkweek editions, an independent non-profit literary publisher that was established in Minneapolis in 1980. She also has edited about 200 books. It was in 2006 that Emilie established “The Gryphon Press” with the sole intention of publishing high quality children picture books related to animal issues and human-animal bond for children and their parents alike.
Such has been the impact of Emilie’s work as an author that she has received a number of prestigious awards. That includes the McKnight Artist of the Year Award, the Kay Sexton Award, and the National Critics Circle Lifetime Achievement Award. And so one can only hope that the future is “bigger and brighter” for this talented author who specializes in children’s books.
