How To make your kid listen to you?

Child listening

Many mothers complain that their kids don’t listen to them. From eating to sleeping, it is not uncommon to hear that your kids do not listen to you. How to make your kid listen to you?

Apart from learning to speak it is also important that kids learn to listen. Unfortunately, often we observe that kids listen only when they actually want to. However, that is not entirely true. To make your kid actually listen to you, you will also need to listen to your kid when he/she wants to express something.

When you genuinely listen to your child, he/she immediately understands that you respect the feelings. In turn, he/she will start listening to you. It is like mutual respect.

Good communication skill is essential to make your kid listen to you. It ensures a great relationship is between you and your child.  A few strategies to improve your child’s listening ability are given below.

Eye contact:

Instead of imposing a bossy attitude, it would be prudent to engage via eye contact with your kid. He /she get the needed attention. Connecting is more important than control.

Body language and appropriate use of speech:

You should offer a proper body language that will make your kid feel that you are not trying to dictate the little one. Also, it’s very essential that you properly address your kid by taking the name.

You should adhere to using simple and short sentences so that the child can easily understand and relate. Usage of too many words, confuse and irritates the child. Eventually, he/she decides to keep the ears closed.

Staying brief is important. You can also let him/her know what you want him to do by using sentences like ‘I want you to do this’ instead of ‘Do this’. This will work great if your child hates being ordered and prefers to be flattered.

Voice tone:

Have a tone of the request while talking to the kid. This tone will compel your kid to do what you want him/her to do instead of plain refusal.

Try to be as positive as possible. If you do not want your child to do something which can hurt him, then you need to direct him/her keeping your tone positive. Avoid unnecessary shouting.

If your kid shouts and yells, you respond back in a soft tone as that will make your child feel that you are carefully listening and this will surely calm the kid.

Encourage activities:

You should try to indulge yourself in various activities that your child has interest in. This will create a strong bond between two of you. It also helps to make your child listen to you carefully.

It would also be wise to sit with your child and make him/her understand in case he/she has done something wrong rather than directly asking for the reason behind such an act.

Relevant topics:

You should talk about the topics that your kid gets excited about. This will ensure that your child opens up and engages in a good conversation with you.

Promises need to be kept:

If you have promised something to your child, never break it. This will affect the trust that he/she has on you and eventually he/she will stop listening to whatever you tell him/her.

When you analyze the above facts, be assured of the major element. How you behave with your kid impact their behavior. Indeed, kids reflect your behavior. How you speak, your tone of voice, way of speech, etc reflects in them.
